BLM Holocaust of Wild Horses

Opinion of The Desert Independent

By ROBERT WINKLER
The Desert Independent

August 14, 2010

GREAT AMERICAN WEST, USA – The headline says it all. This is what it is really all about. If your read Bob Abbey’s interview in Roll Call* you will see that his view of the issue coincides with what we have done with our natural resources everywhere, like the Gulf of Mexico. Exploit them to the maximum and never mind the wild creatures that live within and upon them.

Bob Abbey’s boss, Ken Salazar is and always will be a rancher who sees horses as “stock.” That is animals that are only good for one thing: trade. In other words you need to be able to make money with them or off them or they are worthless. That’s the rancher view. To Bob Abbey, to Ken Salazar, and apparently to President Obama the Wild Horses of the American West are just another farm animal.

As they graze in their ample grazing areas (Bob Abbey and the BLM have lied about the availability of food for the horses.) the horses are forceably stampeded  by BLM contracted helicopters. As the horses find water (if it is not fenced off by the cattle ranchers) they are again rounded up by BLM contracted helicopters. They are stampeded over uneven and rocky ground in summer temperatures. Horses drop as their hooves fall off. Some mares miscarry. The young just die.

Imagine this happening to your family.

Their natural family groups, developed over dozens of years, are split up.

Blood on the hands of the Bureau of Land Management.

Blood on the hands of Ken Salazar.

Blood on the hands of Bob Abbey.

Shame on you all.

It is a HOLOCAUST for these horses.
