BLYTHE, Calif Under scudding clouds and low temperatures, the 27th Annual Yellow Jacket Golf Classic was kicked off by the Palo Verde Valley High School JROTC Color Guard presenting the colors in the morning ceremonies. The Color Guard has been in some demand this year with parades, balls and other activities that command a display of the flag.

Under the tutelage of JROTC instructors MSG Tony McBride and MSG Melvin Walker, the JROTC has grown into a program to be watched. The cadets have acquired their own building and armory on the Twin Palms campus earlier this year and they have been active in pursuing college credits via their online programs.

The Yellow Jacket Classic was organized by long-time booster Eddie Rodriguez with the help of his daughter, Berna Hurly. Retired Golf Coach Randy Peterson was on hand as always to make sure the tournament ran as smooth as it has in the past. The event, held March 17-18 at the Blythe Municipal Golf Course, is sponsored by numerous individuals and businesses throughout the Palo Verde Valley and all proceeds are donated to the Palo Verde Athletics Program.
