Arrest for Elder Abuse

March 28, 2016

NEEDLES, Calif – On Sunday, March 27, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies from the Colorado River Station received information from the Kingman Regional Medical Center that David Buckley was attempting to obtain pain medication for a dependent adult for whom he is the caregiver. The hospital indicated that Buckley appeared to be under the influence of an unknown controlled substance and would not allow the 78 year old dependent adult to be cared for by the hospital once he was denied more medications.

David Buckley (age 54 of Needles) and the dependent adult (age 78 of Needles) were contacted at their home in the 1200 block of W. Broadway in Needles.

An investigation revealed that the dependent, an elderly female appeared to be malnourished, dehydrated and confused. The female dependent was then transported by ambulance to the Colorado River Medical Center for medical treatment. Further investigation also revealed documents which may indicate that Buckley was exploiting the dependent financially as well as neglecting her.

Paraphernalia used to smoke methamphetamine was also found in the home.

Buckley was arrested for elder abuse and booked at the Colorado River jail in Needles, with a bail amount set at $50,000.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
