Arrest for Felon in Possession of Firearms

BLYTHE, Calif On Thursday, June 30, the Blythe Narcotic Enforcement Team (BNET) served a narcotic-related search warrant in the 500 block of East Chanslorway. The Blythe Police Department and United States Border Patrol assisted with the warrant service. The search warrant resulted in the seizure of eight firearms, including two illegal assault rifles, ammunition, suspected methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. Four of the firearms were determined to be stolen.

Ricky Owens (age 44 of Blythe) was arrested and later booked into the Riverside County Jail in Blythe. He was charged with being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of assault rifles, possession of stolen firearms, possession of methamphetamine for sales, maintaining a place for drug sales and committing a felony while out on bail.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.


BNET is a multi-agency narcotic task force participated in by law enforcement agencies in the Blythe, Palo Verde Valley area. BNET's primary mission is to disrupt narcotic sales and diminish the availability of those drugs, thereby increasing public safety. Citizens are encouraged to report drug activity or information that could lead into the arrest of subjects involved with any criminal activity.
