Arrest for Involuntary Manslaughter

NILAND, Calif – On Thursday May 12, at just after midnight, Imperial County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a man not breathing in the area of English Road and Wilkins Road, just north of Niland. Deputies arrived on scene and assisted Paramedics with CPR. The subject was declared deceased at the scene.

Deputies noted some suspicious injuries on the decedent and notified the on-call investigators. The investigation revealed there was a physical altercation between the decedent and 33 year old Antonio Cesmo Vasquez.

Vazquez had fled the scene and was located at ¼ of a mile away hiding in bushes. He was taken into custody and charged with involuntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon and was booked in the Imperial County Jail with bail was set at $50,000. The identity of the decedent is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
