October 13, 2016

NEEDLES, Calif – On Tuesday, September 27, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff and Needles Police Department responded to a residence in the 2000 block of Flora Vista following the report of a burglary. On October 7, 2016, the suspect, later identified as Richard Leonard (age 28 of Needles) returned to the residence and attempted to break in a second time. The victim was home and confronted the suspect, causing the suspect to flee on foot.

Deputies responded to the residence and by using evidence from the original theft and new evidence from the second burglary attempt, they were able to identify the suspect. Deputies obtained an arrest warrant for Leonard and he was arrested on October 8 at 170 7 West Needles Highway. He was transported and booked into the Needles Jail for two counts of first degree burglary.
