Child Cruelty Using Stun Gun

March 27, 2016

JOSHUA TREE, Calif – On Saturday, March 26, at 12:23 pm, a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to the 62500 block of Golden Street in Joshua Tree for a report of possible child abuse. The investigation revealed that six children lived at the location, ranging 8 months to 11 years old with their parents.

The parents had a roommate, Daniel Kitchens (age 25 of Joshua Tree), living with them for the past year and he had been allowed to watch the children occasionally for short periods of time. The deputy learned that Kitchens had used a hand held stun gun on the 5 year old male as punishment and also on the 9 year male while playing around with him.

Kitchens was located in 29 Palms and interviewed and the stun gun recovered.

The parents didn’t know that Kitchens was harming their children. Once the parents and a grandmother learned of the incidents, they immediately reported it to the Sheriff’s Department.

The remaining four children had not been harmed by Kitchens during the incidents.

Daniel Kitchens was arrested for Willful Cruelty to a Child, and booked into the Morongo Basin jail in lieu of $100,000.00 bail.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
