Personal Watercraft Collision Causes Injuries

May 10, 2016

HAVASU LAKE, Calif – On May 7, at approximately 2:15 in the afternoon, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit and the Needles Police responded to the report of a boat collision injury.

Deputies were advised that Blake Gordon and Amanda Zaritsky were each operating personal watercraft (PWC) on Lake Havasu approximately a half mile south of the Havasu Landing casino. Gordon stopped in a cove near the California shore while watching Zaritsky operate her PWC. Zaritsky approached Gordon at a high rate of speed in an attempt to splash Gordon. Zaritsky under estimated the speed and distance between the two skis and struck Gordon ejecting them both.

Blake Gordon (age 24 of Fawnskin, Calif) suffered major injuries and was assisted onto a pontoon boat that took him to the Windsor Beach launch ramp and was then transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center.

Amanda Zaritsky (age 21 of Fawnskin, Calif) was interviewed at Havasu Regional Medical Center where it was determined that alcohol and operator negligence are believed to be contributing factors to the collision.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has additional information is urged to contact the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Marine Enforcement Unit.
