Suicide at Imperial County Jail

Imperial County Sheriff's BadgeEL CENTRO, Calif – On Saturday, January 23 at about 3:00 in the morning, 21 year old Jocelyn Sandoval, an inmate at the Imperial County Jail, was found unresponsive in her cell by Sheriff’s Office staff. She was found this way during a routine inspection of the module in which she was housed.

Immediate medical attention was provided by jail staff. Jocelyn was then transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center and was subsequently airlifted to the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Desert where she died in the late evening hours.

Sheriff’s Office Investigators responded to the scene and an investigation was initiated. The preliminary investigation has revealed injuries which are indicative of suicide. The cause and manner of death is pending an investigation by the Riverside Coroner’s Office.
