Arrest for cruelty to children

JOSHUA TREE, Calif – On Friday, October 27 at about 6:45 p.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff - Morongo Basin Station responded to a report of child neglect on the 6300 block of Center Street in Joshua Tree. Deputies attempted to contact the resident, later identified as Christalyn Swanson (age 40 of Joshua Tree).

According to witnesses, Swanson was under the influence of alcohol and was physically abusive toward the victims. Swanson refused to answer the door. Deputies located an unlocked window at the residence and gained access. The victims were rescued. Swanson exhibited obvious signs of intoxication and was uncooperative with deputies.

The investigation revealed that Swanson had physically assaulted the victims while she was intoxicated and drove a motor vehicle while under the influence with the children in the car. Swanson was arrested for Cruelty to children and booked into the Morongo Basin Jail. Swanson’s bail was set at $100,000.

The victims were taken into protective custody for their safety.
