First wellness ride free on the new Blythe Wellness Express

July 20, 2017

BLYTHE, Calif – Palo Verde Valley Transit Agency has just announced a special offer for Palo Verde Valley residents who wish to try out the new Blythe Wellness Express. Each new registrant will receive a free round trip ticket which they can use to travel to and from the Coachella Valley any time during the following 60 days.

The Blythe Wellness Express provides direct, affordable bus service from Blythe to medical services and facilities throughout the Coachella Valley. Mobility Manager Dale Reynolds explains, “This is brand new kind of service that Blythe residents have never had before. We hope that the ‘First Wellness Ride Free’ offer will encourage them to preregister for the service and give it a try. Once they see how easy and comfortable it is, we think they will see what a bargain it is at $15.00 for a round-trip or $10.00 one-way.

“Many people need to go to the Coachella Valley to see a specialist, have tests run, get prescriptions filled or connect with family. The Blythe Wellness Express will allow them to go when they need to go without having to make the long trip by car or ask for a ride.”

The Blythe Wellness Express runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday, leaving from the Main Street Park & Ride lot at 6:30 AM. By request, riders can arrange to travel from Blythe or designated locations in Mesa Verde or Desert Center. In the Coachella Valley, the bus drops and picks up riders directly at the desired destination.

Destinations include hospitals, doctor’s offices, medical facilities and pharmacies throughout Indio, Indian Wells, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Thousand Palms, La Quinta, Cathedral City and Palm Springs. To use the Blythe Wellness Express, riders must complete a pre-registration survey and make an advance reservation at least 48 hours ahead.

Blythe Wellness Express is a pilot project designed to meet the need for non-emergency medical transportation between Blythe and the Coachella Valley. It is operated by the Palo Verde Valley Transit Agency and is funded in part by the Federal Transit Administration. Other supporters include the Riverside County Transportation Commission, Palo Verde Valley Transit Agency, Palo Verde Hospital, Palo Verde Valley Community Improvement Fund, Riverside County District 4 Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, Blythe Cancer Resource Center, Sun Line Transit Agency and Independent Living Partnership.
