July 15, 2017
BLYTHE, Calif – On Sunday, June 30 at about 1:35 in the afternoon, a 2001 Lincoln Navigator was traveling eastbound Interstate 10, near mile post marker 106. The driver, Maria D. Estrada (age 57 of San Jose) for unknown reasons, failed to maintain her vehicle on the roadway.
The vehicle veered from the left lane off to the right until leaving the roadway where it overturned several times until coming to rest against the south perimeter fence.
The driver suffered minor injuries; however, her passenger, an adult male 66 years of age, was ejected from the vehicle, suffering fatal injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene by Calfire paramedics as a result of the incident.
The driver was transported to Desert Regional Hospital for medical care. The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Blythe Area CHP. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision.
