April 1, 2017

NEEDLES, Calif – On the afternoon of March 29, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff - Colorado River Station were dispatched to the Colorado River Medical Center for a male subject later identified as Charles Klado. Klado went to the hospital with a gallon bottle of bleach that he claimed he had drank. Hospital staff called 911 because of Klado's unusual behavior.

Deputy Petersen and Deputy Bevan attempted to meet with Charles Klado (age 32 of Needles) in the hospital waiting room at which time he instantly became violent and combative towards the deputies. Klado punched at the deputies, attempted to disarm them and resisted their efforts to arrest him.

After a struggle, the deputies were able to take Klado into custody and have him treated for the ingestion of bleach. He was later transported by helicopter to the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada for further treatment.

Both deputies sustained injuries during the confrontation and were treated by the medical staff at the hospital.

The case is being forwarded to the San Bernardino County District Attorney's office for review and filing of charges.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
