Man jailed for assaulting wife with knife
August 22, 2017
JOSHUA TREE, Calif – On Monday, August 21 at about 8:55 p.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department - Morongo Basin Station responded to the 61000 block of Grand View Circle in Joshua Tree to investigate the report of a disturbance involving a female, who stated she had been stabbed.
Deputies located the female victim injured from a stab wound to the hand. Her husband, Carlos Villaescusa (age 33 of San Bernardino) had hit her numerous times, told her she was going to die, and then tried to stab her in the upper torso. The victim tried to avoid being stabbed, but suffered a laceration to her hand from the suspect’s knife.
While deputies were responding to the incident location, Villaescusa fled the scene. Deputies conducted an area check involving ground personnel, a helicopter from the Sheriff’s Aviation Division, and a canine unit. Villaescusa was not initially located during the initial search. However, later that night, Villaescusa returned to the area and was located by deputies. Villaescusa was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Felony Domestic Violence, and Criminal Threats. His bail was set at $50,000.
Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department - Morongo Basin Station at (760) 366-4175.
