Mom jailed after assaulting her 7-year-old son

July 29, 2017

TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif – On Thursday, July 27, at about 9:25 p.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 4500 block of Adobe Road in Twentynine Palms for an in-progress cruelty to a child call. Upon arrival, a witness was contacted and directed deputies to the location where a 7‑year‑old male victim could be found and was safe from his mother.

Through investigation it was learned that the victim accidentally spilled some food in the house and his mother, Brittany Phillips (age 27 of Twentynine Palms), became angry. Phillips began yelling at the victim, choked him, hit him in the face, threw him against a wall and threatened to kill him.

Phillips was contacted outside of her residence and found to be intoxicated.

Phillips was arrested for Cruelty to a Child and booked into the Morongo Basin Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. Phillips was found to be on Probation and a no bail Probation hold was placed on her.

The victim only sustained minor injuries and was placed into the care of Child and Family Services.

Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Morongo Basin Station at (760) 366-4175.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
