Helicopter Rescue of Man after his Vehicle Plunges Down Mountain

ANGELUS OAKS, Calif – On Sunday, February 12 about4:00 p.m., witnesses reported that a David Flores (age 59 of Beaumont) was suicidal and had driven his vehicle over the side of State Highway 38 near Angelus Oaks. Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department - Yucaipa Station and San Bernardino County Fire Department personnel responded. Sheriff’s patrol helicopter, 40 King 6, responded to the area and located Flores down a steep canyon where Flores was ejected from his vehicle.

Fire department personnel arrived and hiked down the canyon. They determined Flores was suffering from major injuries and would need to be hoist rescued. San Bernardino County Air Rescue Helicopter 07 was requested to assist.

The crew of Air Rescue Helicopter 07, with Corporal Michael Gilley, Deputy Eddie Leon, Deputy Wayne Hess, Flight Nurse Wai Li and Flight Medic Brad Adkins responded. Fire department personnel treated Flores and coordinated with Air Rescue 07. The crew arrived Flight Nurse Li was lowered into the canyon. Fire department personnel that had hiked down to Flores remained and assisted Nurse Li by loading Flores into the hoist basket. Flores was hoisted into the helicopter, followed by Nurse Li. The crew transported Flores to a nearby trauma center for treatment.
