Helicopter rescue in Aztec Falls of a cliff jumper

June 27, 2017

LAKE ARROWHEAD, Calif – On Saturday, June 24 at 9:45 in the morning, a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Aviation helicopter was requested by San Bernardino County Fire Dispatch to respond to the Aztec Falls area for a possible hoist rescue of a fall victim.

The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries while jumping from a rock faced wall into the water. Due to his injuries he could not hike out of the area on his own.

Sheriff’s Air Rescue 306 helicopter responded to the scene and lowered an Air Medic approximately 140 feet down to Austin Shelton (age 19 of Diamond Bar). Shelton was placed into a rescue harness hoisted up to the helicopter and flown to Mountain’s Community Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
