Traffic stop leads arrest for stolen vehicle possession

November 25, 2017

JOSHUA TREE, Calif – On Thursday, November 23 at about 9:06 p.m., a deputy from the San Bernardino County Sheriff - Morongo Basin Station conducted a traffic stop on a red Ford truck for an expired registration at Border Ave and Appian Way. William Freier (age 39 of Joshua Tree) was the driver of the vehicle and was found to be on felony probation.

There was an ATV in the bed of the truck that Freier claimed belonged to him, saying he had purchased it for $100 in June of 2017. However, a record’s check of the ATV’s VIN revealed it was stolen from Joshua Tree in June 2017 and was valued at about $1000.

This information resulted in the arrest of Freier for being in possession of a stolen vehicle. Freier was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with a probation hold.

Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Morongo Basin Station at (760)366-4175.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
