Panorama City Man arrested for DUI, Evading & Possession of a Stolen Vehicle after chase
February 13, 2018
NEEDLES, Calif – On Saturday, February 10 about 2:00 in the afternoon, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff - Colorado River Station received information that a stolen vehicle was east bound on Interstate 40 heading towards Needles. A sheriff’s deputy was checking the local businesses on the west end of town when he noticed the stolen vehicle parked at the Mobil Gas Station on the 2400 block of Needles Highway.
The suspect, Darin Robert Sanders (age 41 of Panorama City) was in the vehicle and saw the deputy. Sanders then drove out of the Mobil Gas station at a high rate of speed and drove east on Needles Highway.
Additional sheriff’s deputies assisted the first deputy and conducted a felony traffic stop at Needles Highway and River Road. Sanders refused to comply with deputies’ commands to exit the vehicle and began driving south bound on River Road to Marina Drive where he stopped the vehicle momentarily, then proceeded south to Jack Smith Park. Sanders again stopped the vehicle, but refused to comply with the deputies’ commands to exit the vehicle. Sanders was then removed from the vehicle and taken into custody after a brief struggle.
Sanders was transported to the Colorado River Station jail, where he was booked for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Felony Evading, and Driving Under the Influence. Sanders is being held on $175,000 bail pending a court hearing.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with additional information regarding this investigation is urged to contact the Needles Sheriff’s Station at (760) 326-9200.
