Helicopter rescue for the victim of a rattlesnake bite

May 22, 2018

LAKE ARROWHEAD, Ca – On May 19 about 3:00 p.m., Andrew Basile (age 46 of Running Springs) was hiking the Fisherman’s Campground area with his family. While walking near their campsite, Basile stepped on a rattlesnake.

He attempted to get away from the snake to avoid being bit but was unable to. His family immediately called 911 and requested assistance.

Medical personnel were dispatched, along with Sheriff’s Air Rescue Helicopter 07 since the area is remote and in steep mountain terrain. The crew of helicopter arrived and determined a hoist rescue would be required due to the location and injuries. Basile was hoisted into the helicopter and flown to a nearby trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries.
