March 12, 2018

PINYON PINES, Calif – On Saturday, March 10 at 5:06 p.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department - Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station responded to Cactus Springs Trail in Pinyon Pines after getting a report of a 64-year-old female being reported being lost along the Cactus Springs Trail near the Horse Thief Creek with a small amount of water and no warm clothes.

Members of the Riverside County Desert Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (DSSAR) and Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit (RMRU) responded to the scene to assist in locating the lost hiker. DSSAR hiked into the creek and located the uninjured female. DSSAR assisted the female out of the Horse Thief Creek safely and to the sheriff’s command post located at the 70-000 Block of Highway 74.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind the public to consider taking plenty of water, food, map, and a mobile charging port in order to maintain a charged cell phone. Hikers should also be aware of the weather report and take appropriate clothing for the conditions.
