School violence hoax threats investigated at San Bernardino County Schools

April 13, 2018

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif – Over April 8 and 9, deputies throughout San Bernardino County have responded to local school districts regarding an e-mail threat of violence. Investigators immediately responded and began working closely with members of the school districts, who have been very cooperative.

Deputies also worked with federal law enforcement agencies regarding these incidents. Throughout the country, there have been a rash of e-mail threats that we have determined to be a hoax. At this time, it appears there is no viable threat of violence at any school in the county, based off of the received email.

The following school districts have received an e-mail threat: Colton Joint Unified, Fontana Unified, Helendale, Lucerne Valley Unified, Needles Unified, Redlands Unified, Rim of the World, and Yucaipa-Claimesa Joint Unified.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and all local and state law enforcement officers investigate every threat thoroughly and never take these incidents lightly. The safety of our children and school staff is our top priority.

Anyone with more information related to threats of violence is urged to contact your local law enforcement agency.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
