Theft of copper wiring and electrical equipment

THERMAL, Calif – On Friday, October 12 at approximately 8:30 a.m., Riverside County Sheriff - Thermal Station Deputies, assigned to the Southern Coachella Valley Community Services District Team, continued their investigation into a theft from an Imperial Irrigation District power sub-station located on Pierce Street, south of Avenue 72 in the unincorporated community of Thermal.

The sub-station had been vandalized and property was removed on October 10. The damage was estimated at approximately $20,000 dollars and the theft totaled approximately $5,000 dollars. The suspects were identified as David Cruz, age 28 of Thermal and Mario Sandoval, age 32 of Thermal.

Sandoval and Cruz were taken into custody and booked at the Indio Jail.

The deputies are continuing their investigation into reports of metal thefts and burglaries in the area.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
