Victim of burglary leads deputies to robbers
September 11, 2018
JOSHUA TREE, Calif – On Thursday, September 6, a victim of burglary from the night before, located some of his stolen property alongside an RV. The RV was parked at an unmarked address on Sunny Sand Drive, near the intersection of Sunset Road in Joshua Tree. Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff responded to the location and attempted contact with a male, later identified as Kevin Cruz (age 46 of Joshua Tree) and a female, later identified as Kristie Ragsdale (age 39 of Joshua Tree) inside the RV; however, they refused to open the door.
Deputies obtained a search warrant to enter the RV and search for the remaining stolen property. While preparing to make entry, Cruz ran out of the RV, jumped on a nearby off-road vehicle, and tried to start it. Deputies removed Cruz from the vehicle before he could start it, and took him into custody. Deputies located Ragsdale inside the RV and took her into custody.
Evidence located at the scene linked Cruz to the burglary. All the stolen property was recovered and returned to the victim. Cruz had two outstanding warrants for his arrest; a $5,000 misdemeanor warrant for driving under the influence, and a felony no-bail warrant for possession of stolen property. Ragsdale had an outstanding warrant for her arrest in the amount of $50,000 for possession of stolen property.
Cruz was booked into jail for his outstanding warrants, and burglary. Ragsdale was booked into jail for her outstanding warrant, and possession of stolen property.
Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
