Attempted Murder of Girlfriend

March 12, 2019

TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif – The story starts when on Sunday, March 3, the victim and Steven Harwood (age 47 of Twentynine Palms) walked to Harwood’s home in the 76600 block of Foley Drive in Twentynine Palms. The victim and Harwood were in a dating relationship, but did not live together. So, when the victim tried to leave, Harwood would not allow it and kept her there overnight.

The next morning, and throughout the day, Harwood assaulted the victim on multiple occasions. As a result, she sustained multiple serious injuries.

It was not until March 4 when the victim’s friends came looking for her at Harwood’s home that she was able to escape his residence and flee with these friends.

Investigators were made aware of the incident when the victim sought medical attention at a local hospital on March 5. That morning of March 6, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s - Morongo Basin Station and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Specialized Enforcement Division, served search and arrest warrants at Harwood’s residence. He was taken into custody without incident and booked at the Morongo Basin Jail in lieu of $1,000,000 bail.
