BLYTHE, Calif – In the last week, the Blythe Police Department has received multiple reports from local businesses that counterfeit $20.00 bills had been passed or had attempted to be passed within the City.
Alert cashiers have recognized some of the bills as being counterfeit, and were able to retain the bills. In one case, the clerk recognized a bill as counterfeit and telephoned police. The person trying to pass the bill was contacted and had additional counterfeit $20.00 bills in his possession.
The Blythe Police is asking that local businesses scrutinize the paper currency they come into contact with. Take normal procedures to ascertain if a bill may be counterfeit. Call the police if you believe a bill is counterfeit. Do not try to physically restrain a person trying to pass a suspected counterfeit bill.
Anyone with information about this or any criminal activity is urged to contact the Blythe Police Department at (760) 922-6111. Information can be given anonymously by calling (760) 921-CARE.
