Two Youths Snatch 86 Year Old’s Purse, Caught

January 24, 2011

BLYTHE, Calif – On Saturday, January 22 at 9:53 A.M. Cpl. Heriberto Cavazos and other Blythe Police Officers responded to the area of the 300 block of S. 4th St. regarding a robbery.

On arrival Cpl. Cavazos was told that two black males had stolen a purse from an 86 year old female as she walked home. Two witnesses in the area gave chase of the suspects after witnessing the crime. Contact was made with the two witnesses and told Cpl. Cavazos that the two suspects had run into a home in the 300 block of S. Sixth St. Cpl. Cavazos went to the residence and located two black male juveniles who matched the description of the suspects. Both were detained and later positively identified as the suspects of the robbery by the victim and witnesses.

The two suspects are local teens 13 and 14 years old. They were transported to the Police Department for further investigation where one of the suspects admitted to the crime. Both were transported to Indio Juvenile Hall where they were booked for robbery.

The victim was not injured during the robbery and her property was recovered.

A special thanks from Chief Steve Smith and the Blythe Police Department to the two witnesses who assisted in capturing the robbery suspects and preventing injury to the victim.
