Drunk Driver Caught with Stolen Car By Robert Winkler May 29, 2012
The driver turned on east Florence Blvd., and continued north in the southbound lane. The vehicle then turned on to McKinley, and stopped in the 2100 block of McKinley. The driver and passengers exited the vehicle and fled in different directions. The driver fled southbound, and a short foot pursuit ensued. The foot pursuit was cut short, when the driver tripped and fell. The driver was taken into custody for Failure to Yield and Resisting Arrest. The driver was identified as Austin Armenta, age 18, of Blythe. During the investigation, Armenta was found to have been driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving without a license. The vehicle was stored, and Armenta was booked into the Blythe Jail. The following morning, the registered owner of the Toyota Camry contacted the Blythe Police Department to report that the vehicle had been stolen over night. An auto theft investigation was conducted, and additional charges will be sought against Armenta. Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Anyone with information about this or any criminal activity is urged to contact the Blythe Police Department at (760) 922-6111. Information can be given anonymously by calling (760) 921-CARE.
