BLYTHE, Calif – Sheriff Sniff is announcing the appointment of Captain Lyndon "Ray" Wood as the Commander of the Colorado River Sheriff's Station. Captain Wood will be replacing Captain Andrew Shouse who has been appointed Commander of the Thermal Sheriff's Station. Captain Wood takes command of the station officially on October 18.

Sheriff Stan Sniff said, "Captain Wood has worked in varied assignments within the Department including corrections, patrol, Special Investigations Bureau, Special Enforcement Bureau (SWAT), and the Sheriff's Tribal Liaison Unit. He has been successful at each and every one of his assignments. The experience he has gained will serve him well at his new assignment."

The Colorado River Sheriff's Station provides service and protection to more than 3,429 residents and covers 2,874 square miles of Riverside County. The Colorado River Sheriff's Station provides law enforcement service to the unincorporated area from Red Cloud Road on the west, to the Arizona state line on the east, San Bernardino County on the north and Imperial County on the south. Communities include unincorporated Riverside County, encompassing the Colorado River Indian Tribe, Desert Center, Eagle Mountain, Midland, Nicholls Warm Springs, and Ripley.

Captain Wood has over 22 years of law enforcement experience. He joined the Riverside County Sheriff's Department in May of 1990. Upon graduation from the Sheriff's Academy, Captain Wood held assignments at the Hemet Sheriff's Station, Banning Sheriff's Station, and the contract city of Moreno Valley. His duties included Patrol, Problem Oriented Policing, Criminal Intelligence Unit and the Special Enforcement Bureau (SWAT).

Captain Wood was promoted to the rank of Investigator in April 1996. As an investigator, Captain Wood performed investigative duties within the Southwest Sheriff's Station.

Captain Wood was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in January 1998. As a Sergeant, Captain Wood performed supervisory duties within the Southwest Detention Center, Robert Presley Detention Center, Jurupa Valley Sheriff's Station, the contract city of Temecula, the Special Investigations Bureau – West, and the Special Enforcement Bureau (SWAT).

Captain Wood promoted to Lieutenant in January 2007, where he held assignments at the Jurupa Valley Sheriff's Station and, then created and led the Sheriff's Tribal Liaison Unit. Captain Wood was promoted to Captain in September pending this assignment.

Captain Wood has a B.S. degree from California Baptist University and is a recent graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy. Captain Wood and his wife Raemie, reside in the city of Hemet.
