4th of July Colorado River Marine Enforcement Brings 10 BUIs

COLORADO RIVER, Calif – The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit, conducted it's 2016 Fourth of July Weekend Operation, July 1 through July  4. The operation was conducted along the Colorado River from the California/Nevada State line to the Riverside County line.

The majority of the operation was focused on the waterways along with resorts, launch ramps and marinas along the Colorado River and Lake Havasu. A total of ten patrol vessels, one Rescue Dive Team, two Gang Enforcement Teams, an OHV team and one Sheriff's Department helicopter team were deployed throughout the area.

A total of fifteen arrests were made, ten of which were for Boating Under the Influence (BUI). Forty five citations were issued for various boating law violations. The majority of the citations written involved carriage equipment violations and reckless/negligent boat operation. A total of four boating accidents were investigated by the Colorado River Station's Boating Accident Investigation Team that varied from minor to major injury accidents.

The Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit is dedicated to providing a safe boating atmosphere for the public and always urges everyone to boat sober and wear their life jackets.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
