Arrest for Embezzling $11,000

July 15, 2016

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif – On January 5, the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a concerned parent that complained about 33 year old Leah M. Puyot, who without permission withdrew approximately $11,500 from a GoFundMe account that was created to help pay for medical bills for a three year old child who was battling cancer.

Regrettably, the child lost the battle with cancer and passed away at which point the concerned parent was made aware of the deceptive action committed by Puyot. An investigation revealed that Puyot was the sole administrator of the GoFundMe account and the only person with access to the funds raised for the assistance of the three year old.

On July 14, 2016, Puyot was arrested by Imperial County Sheriff’s Deputies and booked into the Imperial County Jail, and has been charged with Grand Theft. Her bail is set at $5,000.00

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
