DUI Hit & Run Driver Jailed with the Help of Observant Citizen

November 20, 2016

29 PALMS, Calif – On Friday, November 18, at 4:52 p.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff - Morongo Basin Station responded to a report of traffic collision at the intersection of Twentynine Palms Highway and Indian Cove Road. On arrival, they located the victim’s vehicle which had crashed into and spun around in the roadway. The other involved vehicle was a truck towing a travel trailer. The victim suffered minor injuries and had to be transported, via ambulance, to the hospital. The truck and trailer fled the scene of the crash.

Deputies conducted an extensive area check and, with the help of a citizen, located the truck and trailer parked behind the Wal-Mart in Yucca Valley. There deputies located fresh damage to the truck and trailer consistent with being involved with the victim’s vehicle. Deputies contacted Shawn Bauer (age 45 of Twentynine Palms), who was ultimately arrested for the felony hit and run and driving under the influence. He was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
