Off Road Motorcycle Crashes after 14 Mile Pursuit

July 3, 2016

29 PALMS, Calif – On Friday, July 1 at approximately 9:47 PM a deputy from the San Bernardino County Sheriff  - Morongo Basin Station saw a white male, later identified as Bruce Edginton (age 25 of 29 Palms), illegally riding an off road motorcycle west on 2 Mile Road from Mariposa.

The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the unregistered vehicle and Edginton fled west on 2 Mile road to Lear, south on Lear to SR 62, east on 62 to Utah Trail, north on Utah to Amboy and east on Amboy where he attempted to run a red light and was struck by a Dodge Caravan. Edginton's motorcycle flew into the deputy’s patrol unit after being hit by the Caravan.

The collision caused moderate damage to both vehicles. During the fourteen mile pursuit, Edginton ran red lights on SR 62 with speeds in excess of 90 MPH and drove into oncoming lanes of traffic. Edginton showed blatant disregard for the safety of all citizens in the 29 Palms area. Edginton was flown to Desert Regional Medical Center for his injuries.

The driver of the Dodge Caravan and deputy were uninjured during the accident. During a search of Edginton's backpack deputies located less than one ounce of marijuana and a glass methamphetamine pipe. The report will be sent to the Morongo Basin District Attorney's Office for review and filing of charges.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
