“Rifle” Scare at Motel Office

BLYTHE, Calif – On Monday October 31, at about 11:23 a.m., officer’s from the Blythe Police Department responded to the Red Roof Inn at 850 West Hobsonway regarding a female adult who walked into the office with what the clerks believed to be a loaded rifle. The female told a staff member she was waiting for her boyfriend.

Responding Officers arrived on scene and a perimeter was set up around the hotel and adjoining businesses.

Officers approached the office area and saw a female adult sitting in the office of the business. The female was sitting next to what appeared to be a shotgun leaned up against the wall. Officers entered the office and detained the female subject without incident while they obtained additional information from staff and made sure the weapon was safe.

Officers checked the rifle and it was found to be a pellet rifle that resembled a hunting rifle. Officers talked to staff and determined that no crime had been committed. Officers then spoke to the female to make sure she was not impaired in any way. After an education on how to safely carry a firearm/rifle and an evaluation of her well-being she was released from the scene without further incident.

No criminal charges will be filed as a result of this incident.
