Felon arrested after accidentally shooting himself
August 5, 2018
BIG RIVER, Calif – On Sunday, July 15, 2018 at 4:52 p.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff - Colorado River Station/Parker Dam responded to the La Paz County Hospital after getting a report of a shooting victim. During the investigation it was determined that Allen James King (age 27 of Big River) accidentally shot himself with a .22 caliber rifle when he dropped it. King suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and released.
Initially, it was not discovered that King is a convicted felon and therefore should have not been in the possession of the rifle at the time he shot himself. An additional investigation was then conducted and a warrant was issued for King's arrest.
On Friday, August 3 at 12:53 p.m., a traffic stop was conducted at the intersection of Blue Water Rd and Rio Mesa Dr. in Big River. King was a passenger in the vehicle and was arrested on the active warrant. During the arrest, King was in possession of a handgun. King was booked at the Needles jail with a $100,000 bail.
Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact Deputy McMullen or Detective Caronna at 760-326-9200.
