July 22, 2018

TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif – On Tuesday, July 17 at 2:00 p.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to the 5600 block of Daisy Avenue after receiving a report of a stabbing. Arriving deputies located Susan Turnbaugh outside a residence, with a single stab wound to her upper back.

She was transported by ambulance to Desert Regional medical center with a non-life-threatening wound.

It was reported William Bassine (age 29 of Twentynine Palms) stabbed his mother, Susan, during an argument, then threw the knife at his brother Wayne, causing a superficial wound to Wayne’s arm.

For just over one hour, William refused commands to exit the residence, but eventually came out and was taken into custody without further incident. William Bassine was arrested for attempted murder and booked at West Valley Detention Center. His bail was set at $100,000.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
