Arrests after assaulting & leaving woman in the desert

JOSHUA TREE, Calif – On Monday, December 17, 2018 at about 4:21 a.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 65000 block of 4th Street, Joshua Tree, after getting a report of a suspicious female. Deputies contacted the victim who had visible injuries to her face and was disoriented.

The victim told detectives they were at a home in Morongo Valley where they met a male and female. The male suspect offered to give her a ride home. The victim, the male suspect and the female suspect all left the location in the male suspect’s vehicle. They did not drive her home, and after a few stops, they drove out into the desert off Sunfair Road in Joshua Tree.

The victim was confronted by both suspects. When the victim got out of the vehicle, she was physically assaulted. Both suspects left the area leaving the victim in the desert and taking the victim’s property.

Detectives from the Morongo Basin Station were able to positively identify the suspects as, Jeremy Harper (age 32 of Joshua Tree) and Samantha Rodriguez (age 32 of Morongo Valley) and arrest warrants were obtained for both suspects.

On Sunday, December 20, 2018, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Specialized Enforcement Division (SED) executed the service of the arrest warrants at the homes of both Harper and Rodriguez were there were taken into custody without incident. They were booked at West Valley Detention Center in lieu of $200,000 dollars bail.
