Fatal single vehicle crash
November 21, 2019
RIPLEY, Calif – On Wednesday, November 20 at 3:13 in the afternoon the California Highway Patrol (CHP) was notified of a 2002 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck crash eastbound on 32nd Ave. east of Rannells Blvd. On arrival, the arrival, the vehicle’s driver, Salvador J. Ortega (age 59 of Mexicali, Mexico) and sole occupant was deceased.
The CHP investigation didn’t reveal the speed prior to the truck drifting towards the left onto the north dirt shoulder of 32nd Ave. Apparently, Ortega made an unsafe turn to the right and proceeded across 32nd Ave. and onto the south dirt shoulder eventually traversing down an embankment colliding with brush and overturning into a drainage ditch on the south side of 32nd Ave.
Ortega was wearing his seatbelt, however he sustained fatal injuries.
This traffic collision is still under investigation with details and cause pending. For further information regarding this collision please contact the CHP Blythe Area Public Information Officer, Officer J. Girard (#17353) at 760-922-6141.
