PVVTA announces free fares for seniors on Blythe Wellness Express
June 18, 2019
BLYTHE, Calif – Starting now and in effect until funds are spent, seniors in the Blythe area can ride the Blythe Wellness Express (BWE) for free to travel to their medical appointments and designations in the Coachella Valley. The free senior fares are made possible through the partnership of the Independent Living Partnership and the Riverside County Office on Aging, designating $4,500 in Older Americans Act funding to the Blythe Wellness Express program.
The funding can cover up to 300 round-trips to seniors on the Blythe Wellness Express, which is operated by the Palo Verde Valley Transit Agency (PVVTA).
“This is awesome news!” said Riverside County Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, a member of the PVVTA board of directors. “the Blythe Wellness Express improves the lives of residents who use this service to access health care. This will be a great help for seniors to enhance their health and quality of life.”
To take advantage of the free fares, senior citizens need to first call the Riverside County Office on Aging’s HelpLink at 1-800-510-2020 or 951-867-3800. HelpLink will make a referral to PVVTA, which will book the ride as needed. The program is ongoing until the funds are spent.
Blythe Wellness Express runs Monday and Wednesday, with trips also provided on the first and third Friday of each month.
